Honourable mention, “Generaciones 09 Award, Obra Social Caja Madrid”.
Interactive installation where people were ask to draw a soldier from memory. It was exhibited in museums and art institutions from all over Spain, gathering around 600 drawings, that are property of Obra Social Caja Madrid.
A drawing is a way of thinking, a tool by which we show immediately the way we see things. I’m interested in that form of “exercise” because the image created requires in some way action and it makes us evaluate our knowledge of a specific matter. In a society where images seem to think by ourselves, I’m interested in the idea of drawing as a reflection, as a kind of a “brain training” or “information to fill out”, almost a sociological experiment. I’ve chosen the figure of a soldier because its image change according to our experience and the political situation of each specific nation. Many of the drawings are clearly influenced by the image created by TV and films.
